Our Summer reads

We are off on the road this week, so I have just come back from a last minute dash to the WH Smith down on Rue de Rivoli to pick up some good summer reads for all of us! I do have a Kindle but I still don’t have to instinct of reading on it. I know it is practical, I know it is simple and I know it is cheaper – I just so miss the feeling of browsing around a bookshop and having a chat to figure out what is the right book for me at that exact moment.

So here are the books I picked up:

One More Croissant For The Road: I am BIG Felicity Cloake fan. I love her recipes in the Guardian and love her sense of humour. So a book about her cycling around France eating croissants sounds perfect for me driving around France, equally eating croissants!

Normal People: This book by Sally Rooney has had amazing reviews and was highly recommended by the friendly lady at WH Smith rue de Rivoli ;). I love stories about relationships and the psychology and intensity behind them. This book, focusing on the relationship of two friends from different backgrounds in contemporary Dublin, seems to be able to break down complex human emotions perfectly.

On The Come Up: This is new novel by Angie Thomas, the author of The Hate U Give. Coco devoured The Hate U Give and it actually is the first book she has ever recommended to me. She was spot on with her recommendation  and I read it in one sitting on a train journey. We have high hopes for this one and hope that it is as good as the first book – apparently it is! (I cannot tell you how much I am loving having a kid that is old enough to read the same books with and have discussions about them – teenagers sometimes do rock).

It’s Trevor Noah: Born a Crime (Adapted for young readers) This is an interesting one, as I have never bought an adaptation of an adult book for kids. I normally feel like the original is best. But I am a great fan of Trevor Noah, I love his intelligent humour and, since our trip to South Africa, Violette is fascinated by the history of South Africa and apartheid. I think she might really enjoy this one.

If you have any recommendations do send them our way – there are so many great new books out this year!
