‘The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone’ by Jaclyn Moriarty

I am delighted to have discovered How Brave is the Wren through our Babyccino Kids shopping portal. It’s an online children’s bookstore, and before covid came along, it was a travelling bookstore in a caravan! It’s an Aladdin cave filled with the most glorious collection of books. When I browse through their online store, I’m like a kid in a candy store each and every time. I simply adore it! And I adore Jenny, the owner, who has a wonderful way of knowing just exactly what book your child will like.

That’s where ‘The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone’ comes in. Jenny chose this particular book for me to read with Florence once I explained Florence’s reading likes and loves. Jenny chose a perfect book with a mix of thrills and excitement, and its charming prose is brimming with delights. We have both adored reading this book.

The story is about ten-year-old Bronte Mettlestone, whose parents abandoned her as a baby. Her Aunt Isabelle is left to raise her along with the butler. When Bronte receives a telegram one sudden morning announcing that her parents have been killed by pirates, it also details how her parents have left detailed instructions in their will which must be obeyed or terrible things will happen. Bronte is told she has to travel across kingdoms to deliver presents to each of her ten aunts. Remember she is only ten! The adventure is incredible and so exciting but she begins to believe this is not just about delivering treasure.

‘The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone’ is a page turner! It’s the biggest book Florence has read so far, coming in at over 400 pages long but it is a nail biter and so Florence loved its adventure.

You can purchase ‘The Extremely Inconvenient Adventures of Bronte Mettlestone’ directly from How Brave is the Wren here. Do feel free also to drop Jenny an email anytime asking for recommendations. There is so much more to How Brave is The Wren than just an online store. Jenny has developed a book club and bundle selections and there is loads of choice for different age groups too.

Happy reading!

Two of my daughters have read this book and it’s companion book at least three times together! The elder reading to the younger. They talk about the books and tell me about things the characters say.
